This Marquetry Batman Clutch Bag blends modern design with centuries-old craftsmanship. Inspired by the bold silhouette of the Batman emblem, its sharp form is accentuated by hand-carved bamboo edges, each finished with delicate layers of gold leaf. The clutch features exquisite marquetry using European rye straw, paired with traditional Kundan settings of rock crystal, rubies, emeralds, and diamonds. Each piece is meticulously handcrafted by skilled artisans over three months, merging architectural modernity with the intricate detail of heritage techniques. The result is a striking, sculptural accessory that bridges the worlds of contemporary fashion and timeless artisanal excellence.

LAdV has masterfully pioneered the ancient technique of marquetry, transforming it into an art form for fine handbags. Using imported European rye straw, LAdV collaborates with a renowned French marquetry expert to infuse a refined elegance into each design. This meticulous process includes soaking, splitting, sun-drying, and ironing the straw to achieve a spectrum of shades from pale gold to deep brown, ensuring the highest quality in every piece. Once the marquetry is complete, elegant golden lines of embellishments are added, forming new patterns over 5-10 days. The bags are finished with precious and semi-precious decorations, narrating a story of painstaking craftsmanship and design. The process, especially on varying handbag shapes, demands exceptional skill and patience to ensure seamless adhesion and perfect alignment, creating a flawless and luxurious product.
The special work here is the Kundan setting – a technique most closely associated with the jewelled arts of the Mughal emperors. The goldsmith can set gemstones (diamonds in this design) directly into surfaces, or into engraved gem materials, such as rock crystal. Kundan pieces are extremely intricate and involve a lot of skilled labour. Each piece is hand-finished, which translates into countless hours of hard work by skilled artisans. The time taken to craft a small piece of kundan jewellery could vary anywhere between two to three months, depending on the craftsmanship and the intricacy of the chosen design.
The masterful elegant piece took over 3 months with over 6 craftsmen involved at various stages.
