LAdV is shaped by the remarkable skills of artisans across Asia and beyond — a true tapestry of global craftsmanship. Our creations come to life through the nimble hands of Thai artisans, the intricate wood carving traditions of Indonesia, the centuries-old cinnabar lacquer techniques of China, the regal Mughal design influences of India, the refined lacquer artistry of Japan, the precise marquetry techniques of France and many more.

Each creation begins with natural materials — coconut shell, scarab wings, bamboo, ebony, shell, precious metals, and gemstones — shaped and assembled through meticulous handwork. Carving, inlay, weaving, silversmithing, lacquering, and engraving are all performed by specialists who have mastered their craft over generations.

Every piece is made by hand, no two items are ever alike. Many designs are created only once or in extremely limited numbers, giving each LAdV creation its own soul, story, and identity.

This fusion of diverse cultural techniques, rare natural materials, and exceptional artisanship is what makes LAdV truly unique.

TECHNIQUES

Scarab

Ethically sourced iridescent wings whose natural colours require no dye — used to create shimmering, magical surfaces unique to nature. Producing scarab designs is a painstaking process where each scarab piece is carefully selected according to color and is shaved to a certain thickness and then glued on. Each piece takes typically 5-10 minutes of work, and with each piece of jewellery having anywhere between 50 to 1,000 scarab pieces, depending on their size, they become timeless pieces. Historically, the scarab beetle was admired because of its reproduction process which seems miraculous. The Egyptians made it a divine creature and the Chinese put a jade scarab into the mouth and ears of the deceased emperors to help them find peace in their afterlife.

TECHNIQUES

Lacquer

Traditional lacquer is a centuries-old craft in which natural resin is applied in multiple hand-polished layers to create surfaces of depth, shine, and exceptional artistry. A typical carved Chinese lacquer piece usually has anywhere from 80 to 200 layers of lacquer and can take up to 8 months to produce. To gradually build a solid lacquer body through multiple hand-applied layers for carving the craftsmen have to stack layer after layer for months or years. LAdV combines the finest artisans from China and Japan with their own unique design sensibility. By blending traditional craftsmanship with modern flair, we create pieces that are both authentic and desirable.

Exotic Woods

LAdV believes urban life pulls us away from nature, we become alienated from nature. Nature is the ultimate example of beauty as proportions and harmony is omnipresent. This is where LAdV breathes life back into the woods it uses. According to us, Wood has two lives, one as a living tree and the other as a life beyond, when nature has taken its toll on the wood. For instance, when we find a piece of wood which has been in the water for over 50 years and we see something in the shape, our attention is drawn to the natural shape of the wood and without altering its original shape, we add our fantasy to create the art piece. Lotus Arts de Vivre designers then combine these precious organic forms of nature with sterling silver and semi-precious gem stones to bring out the key features of the design. These labour intensive master pieces are one of a kind works of art .
