This organically shaped liana wood sculpture is adorned with a sterling silver Chinese dragon, embellished with tiger’s eye stones and accents of 24K gold leaf. The dragon’s sinuous body wraps around the natural contours of the wood in a fluid movement, creating a dramatic composition that combines sculptural form, symbolism, and rare natural materials. The piece is mounted on a black granite base, enhancing both stability and visual presence.

Within Chinese mythology, the dragon occupies a position of great importance. As a totem, dragons traditionally symbolise potent and auspicious powers, particularly those associated with water, rainfall, storms, and natural forces. Across East Asian culture, the dragon is regarded as a symbol of power, strength, wisdom, and good fortune bestowed upon those deemed worthy. It is also the fifth of the twelve animals of the Chinese zodiac and is associated with the Earthly Branch symbol 辰 (chen).

The sculpture is crafted from liana wood, a rare jungle vine known for its naturally twisting and organic form. Found within tropical and temperate regions of the Brazilian mountains, each section of liana is individually selected for its aesthetic qualities before being dried, hollowed, and treated. Its distinctive surface texture and sculptural character make it highly prized by collectors and designers, with no two pieces ever identical. Some examples of liana wood may be more than a century old, further enhancing their rarity and appeal.

The contrast between the flowing natural form of the liana and the detailed sterling silver dragon creates a compelling dialogue between nature and craftsmanship. Suitable as an entrance statement piece, luxury interior sculpture, or office centrepiece, the work carries both decorative impact and symbolic significance.
