The Scarab's Secret: Nature’s Jewel of Rebirth and Renewal
A Symphony of iridescent Scarab Wings
HISTORY AND BEAUTY OF SCARAB
Found in the forests and tamarind orchards of Thailand, the scarab beetle lives a short and silent life. And when its journey ends, it leaves behind a pair of iridescent wings, with colours that shift between emerald, violet, deep blue, and bronze. But beyond their brilliance is a quiet durability that outlasts trends and time. Their brilliance, untouched by pigment or paint, can endure for over a hundred years.
Today, scarabs are found across the world, with over 35,000 species identified from the deserts of North Africa to the tropical forests of Thailand. And yet, no matter where they are found, these beetles have an undeniable dignity. Their shimmering shells, in shades that seem to change with the light, are a reminder of how remarkable nature can be when left to its own pace.

Though these wings are present in nature, they are rarely utilised with true understanding. To see their potential and to work with them properly requires a particular kind of eye and a deep respect for detail. Years ago, inspired by Her Royal Highness the Queen of Thailand, who included scarab wings in her foundation’s designs, we began exploring the possibilities of this unique material. What began as curiosity became a commitment. Today, scarab wings are at the heart of many of our pieces not just for their beauty, but for what they represent: resilience, rebirth, and the enduring genius of nature.
Before it became a symbol of protection or transformation, the scarab lived a life no one noticed. It began in the soil hidden from view, feeding and growing in silence. When it finally emerged, it was not remarkable in size or strength but in what it came to represent.
Civilisations across time saw something meaningful in this small creature. In its quiet cycles, they saw life renewing itself. In its path across the ground, they imagined the sun moving across the sky. And in its short life, they found something lasting.
It begins in the soil, humble, hidden, and unremarkable. A small egg laid beneath the earth becomes a pale, curved larva that spends its days feeding in darkness. Slowly, silently, it prepares for transformation. When it finally emerges as a scarab, its journey has just begun, with wings that shimmer in the light, catching colours no paint could recreate.

To the ancient Egyptians, this emergence was nothing short of miraculous. They saw in the scarab a symbol of self-creation and eternal renewal. A creature that seemed to generate itself from the earth, just as the morning sun rose from the horizon. The scarab, particularly the Scarabaeus sacer, became an emblem of the god Khepri, who moved the sun across the sky each day — a divine cycle of renewal and return.
It was revered not for its size or might, but for what it represented: the power of transformation, the promise of rebirth and the never-ending cycle of life.
Scarab wings appear in a spectrum of natural hues, shaped solely by nature. Their colour cannot be dyed or replicated, and each carries its own cultural meaning and symbolism.

GREEN: The Message of Rebirth and Renewal
The green scarab beetle’s spiritual meaning is deeply tied to rebirth and renewal. In ancient Egyptian culture, green scarabs were linked to vegetation and the Nile’s cycles, each one a talisman of flourishing life. In nature, it signals life, balance, and the steady rhythm of growth after rain, the renewal that follows each season’s end. Across centuries and cultures, green has been a colour of promise. Today, a green scarab still carries that echo of abundance and transformation, perfect for those seeking a fresh chapter or a grounded spiritual connection.
In ancient Egypt, the green scarab was placed alongside the deceased not as an ornament, but for guidance. Thought to help the soul in its passage to the afterlife, it was carved with prayers and incantations—small, sacred messages meant to offer protection and peace.

BLUE: The Shade of Protection and Harmony
Blue scarabs embody serenity and spiritual clarity. Ancient artisans saw the deep, oceanic hue as a shield, a colour that calmed the soul while guarding it. For modern wearers, blue scarab jewellery acts as a quiet protector and a symbol of inner balance in a world of constant motion.

BLACK: The Colour of Regeneration and Mystery
Black might not catch the light like other scarab colours, but it holds a different kind of weight. In ancient rites, black scarabs were often placed over the heart and were believed to aid the soul’s journey to the afterlife because they were seen as protectors in the unknown. For us, they’re a reminder that even in quiet or uncertain moments, there is strength.

GOLD: The Colour of Light of Eternity and Prosperity
There’s something undeniably special about golden scarab wings. In many traditions, gold was linked to the divine, to light, to the eternal. In ancient Egypt, gold was associated with the sun god Ra, with divine energy, and the idea of life continuing beyond what we can see. To wear a gold-toned scarab is to carry a small reminder of warmth, strength, and light that endures.

In the scarab, we find a reminder that meaning does not announce itself. It emerges slowly, through cycles of transformation, patience, and time. Long before it was an ornament, the scarab was a symbol; long after fashion shifts, it remains one. To understand its beauty is not simply to admire its colour, but to recognise the quiet intelligence of nature and the enduring stories it leaves behind.
